In this article you can find presentation of one student project of Information Studies and Librarianship Department at the Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University. This project of librarian student radio LibRa (abbreviation for Librarian Radio) now enters its second year of existence. The main goal of this project is to originally chronicle the important events and people around the department and scientific community. Nowadays you can hear LibRa's records in the Inflow magazine in the form of the sound tabloid of this e-zine.

The aim of this essay is to give a description of environments and projects that support the reading habits and academic success of children. Family is the most important and dominant environment for the cultivation of reading during one´s childhood – it´s influence consists of regular reading aloud, discussing books, reading together with children etc. The essay mentions a project "Celé Česko čte dětem" and describes its aims. Children are also influenced in their schools by teachers and tutors. Some of the projects mentioned in the text are "Rosteme s knihou" or "Knížka pro knihomola Emila". There are also some discussions of how teachers can help children with their reading, how they can recommend or discuss books worth reading. The last environment we mention in the essay is the library. Only a few children come to the library on their own, most of them come with their parents, friends or school. That is why families and schools are so important. There are many projects supporting children´s reading, for example "Noc s Andersenem" or "Velké říjnové čtení".

This article deals with teaching of information retrieval at the Division of Information and Library Studies (the Faculty of Arts at the Masaryk University). It focuses on the use of library and information science databases in a specific course called Retrieval and Analytical Surveying. These databases provide sophisticated search systems. Therefore, they are appropriate for the demonstration of different search strategies and tactics.
