Impact factor is an exact and widely acknowledged prestige indicator of scientific journals. It's therefore often important for users to know its value for a specific journal. It's possible to mediate this information very effectively by additional SFX services. A link to the Journal Citation Reports database which is the source of impact factor information can be incorporated directly into the SFX menu ensuring very fast access to this data. Another option is to add impact factor values to the list of electronic journals which is also generated by SFX. Including impact factor information by SFX services appears to be very attractive and useful.

The article is a short overview of news and development of the tools and databases produced by Thomson Reuters. It introduces a new analytical tool for journals JADE and informs about enhancements in the Web of Science in Journal Citation Reports as an establishing of five-year Impact Factor or a new metric Eigenfactor. The article summarizes the analytical tools and its reports for the research assessment and mentions two new portals ResearchersID and InCites.

This article provides a short overview of the MESUR project and its major objective to enriching the toolkit used for the assessment of the impact of scholarly communication items, and hence of scholars, with metrics that derive from usage data.

The article has the aim to introduce portal Eigenfactor.org that focuses on ranking and mapping scientific knowledge using the network theory. Methods of science evaluation are based on the model that accounts scientific literature as a large network connected by citations and a researcher moving in this network via the chain of citations. To evaluate the journals portal uses two own indicators, Eigenfactor Score and Article Influence. Basic and advanced search lead the user to a certain journal or to a ranking in a scientific field (or any otherwise defined group of journals); for each journal the user obtains detailed data and the synthetic charts. Moreover portal contains so called Cost-Effectiveness Search that enables comparing of the journals by the price and effectiveness. The article brings an analysis of this search on the example from the field information science and library science. The analysis compares the data from Eigenfactor.org in two classification schemes used and more with the original data source Journal Citation Reports by Thomson-Reuters. In the end the article briefly presents visualization tools, Interactive Browser that leads the user through the scientific network by showing neighbouring disciplines and a Motion Charts giving user the overview of the development of core journals for the discipline.
