The aim of this essay is to give a description of environments and projects that support the reading habits and academic success of children. Family is the most important and dominant environment for the cultivation of reading during one´s childhood – it´s influence consists of regular reading aloud, discussing books, reading together with children etc. The essay mentions a project "Celé Česko čte dětem" and describes its aims. Children are also influenced in their schools by teachers and tutors. Some of the projects mentioned in the text are "Rosteme s knihou" or "Knížka pro knihomola Emila". There are also some discussions of how teachers can help children with their reading, how they can recommend or discuss books worth reading. The last environment we mention in the essay is the library. Only a few children come to the library on their own, most of them come with their parents, friends or school. That is why families and schools are so important. There are many projects supporting children´s reading, for example "Noc s Andersenem" or "Velké říjnové čtení".
Téma této eseje úzce souvisí s dětskými knihovnami a jejich snahami, jak si uchovat stávající čtenáře a získat nové. Zde se však budu spíše zabývat tím, jak vůbec děti k četbě přivést a zdůrazním rozdíly mezi impulsy, které k četbě vedou děti a dospělé.
